REQUEST FOR STORIES: Anyone Using the Mosquito Ringtone?
We wanted to reach out and hear your stories about how you are using the mosquito ringtone. Is anyone out there using it? Is it an actual ringtone on your phone? Do you have one of the mobile apps? Do you use it? Do you have any ideas on other ways that these high pitched frequencies can be used? What were the reactions to the people you showed it to?
Please leave your stories and comments below:
Thanks

We share a home with another family, and the folks who live in the flat above us have a not-so-new-born, who has gone from simple crying, to wailing for attention, to demanding to be heard, to getting his way, etc., etc.
I’m not speaking of simple crying from frustration, loneliness, pain, or surprise, but screaming in true manipulation of the other members of the household. The proof is that he can turn this noise on and off at any time.
They don’t seem to know that for his future benefit, they should limit this behaviour; and that it is entirely within their power, right, and responsibility to do so. Enter the Mosquito Tone!
Now, whenever he squalls outside of normal bounds, we transmit the mosquito through the heat ducts using some small speakers. We try to provide immediate feedback, and stop as soon as he stops caterwauling. At first, there were a few experimental squawks in protest, but when the volume was turned up, he changed his tune to real crying. When he cried in earnest, we turned it off. If he returned to squawking, we turned it on. Simple pavlovian conditioning! It’s wonderful, and while the adults can’t detect what’s going on, everyone benefits.
Now, if only someone can make us an automatic crying detector that plays a given file for a set period of time, we won’t have to mind the computer and sit the child for these less than stellar parents. I’m not a programmer, but the idea is certainly “sound”!
